Mistral AI has launched new features on Le Chat, a multi modal conversational AI work assistant that is set to compete with established players like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity. Recently, OpenAI’s ChatGPT launched Work with Apps feature. And within a few days Mistral AI added new features to Le Chat. If this goes on, soon one of these companies might achieve AGI, although Mistral openly says it’s goal is rather not to achieve AGI but to place frontier AI within everyones reach.

What is Le Chat by Mistral?
Web Search with Citations: Unlike many AI assistants that provide information based on their last update, Le Chat can fetch real-time data from the web, providing users with the latest information and citing sources for accuracy.
Multimodal Capabilities and Document and Image Understanding: With its Pixtral Large, a state of the art multimodal model, Le Chat can understand large and complex PDFs and images for analysis and summarization, which is particularly useful for research or educational purposes.
Canvas for Ideation: This feature allows users to create and edit content visually, offering a space for brainstorming, designing, or even coding, directly within the chat environment.
Image Generation: Partnering with Black Forest Labs, Le Chat can now generate high quality images.
Le Chat is Mistral AI’s answer to the growing demand for more advanced and user-friendly conversational AI Assistants. As of now, Le Chat is still in beta phase, but it’s free for users to try. Mistral Le Chat comes with a suite of features as mentioned below.
To start using Le Chat, simply sign up through the Mistral AI website. While there might be a wait due to high demand, the platform promises to scale its capacity. Once you’re in, to try out the new features, you need to click on the “Try it out” link as shown below.
This will bring up a modal window in which you select from three features called Canvas, Web Search and Image Generation.
If you want to use Canvas feature, then you both Web search and Image generation will be turned off. And similarly if you want to use either of the Web Search or Image generation features, then Canvas needs to be turned off.
During the beta phase, Mistral Le Chat is available for free. For businesses, there’s Le Chat Enterprise, which allows for self-deployment and fine-tuned moderation, fitting into corporate environments seamlessly. Mistral AI encourages users to provide feedback, aiming to refine and improve Le Chat based on real-world usage, ensuring it meets user needs effectively.
